April 2021 Monthly Updates: New Updates & Tips to Enhance Your Experience

Small Tweaks For Smoother Sailing

The month is all about updating for an enhanced publisher experience (and also, because it’s April, a little bit about taxes… VAT taxes, that is).

We’re showing off updates that allow you to get more function out of existing tools like WooCommerce, corporate and group accounts, or custom fields in your template. We’re bringing intel and inspiration from experience publisher voices, and taking the sting out of calculating your VAT tax rates.

You ready? Let’s go.

New Add-On: VAT Tax

Never worry about your VAT taxing again. Leaky Paywall now works with taxrates.io to automatically generate the correct tax amounts for your transactions.

A Spotlight on Woo Commerce

The WooCommerce add-on to Leaky Paywall is a versatile integrated payment platform. WooCommerce acts as a source-of-truth to LeakyPaywall’s content access.

We’ve recently updated a few things about the add-on (including the instructions that walk you through the Woo-Commerce set-up).

Gift Subscriptions with WooCommerce
WooCommerce’s Gifting add-on ensures that, when your readers purchase a gift subscription, it is the recipient who is added to Leaky Paywall’s subscriber table, rather than the gifter.

Add-On Integrations
The list of add-ons that work with the WooCommerce integration is lengthy, including, but not limited to:

  • Ad Blocker Notice
  • Login Redirect
  • IP Blocker
  • Multiple Levels
  • Corporate Subscriptions
  • Mailchimp
  • Reporting Tools
  • Ad Dropper
  • and more

Check out the full list (and some other great information on getting started with WooCommerce).

A Source of Inspiration: The Imprint – Subscription Page

This beautiful subscription page includes a brief rundown of the benefits, plus a set of subscription cards clearly explaining each tier, including the free registration level. The page is uncluttered, informative, and aesthetically pleasing.

New Feature for Developers: Hiding (or Showing) Custom Fields Behind Leaky Paywall

We’re happy to share a little bit of code that helps you choose who gets access to premium content that is built into the theme or plugin file, rather than the WP content editor.

Have a video embed you only want to show to certain subscriber access levels? This code will automatically display the video to those subscribers, while prompting all others to subscribe.

New Podcast Episodes

Group subscriptions allow an account owner to invite XX number of members to share their subscription. Now any subscriber can be made a group owner in Leaky Paywall. Learn more.

Ad Blocker Notice
This function, which encourages users to disable their Ad Blocker or subscriber, has been updated with bug fixes and should now function smoothly.

Pro Tip: How to calculate your rate of conversion from trial subscription to paid

A note to begin: this calculation requires use of the Trials add-on and the Stripe payment gateway.

In Stripe, locate the number of conversions for the last 30 days (A). Also find the number of ended trials for the same period (B). Divide A by B for your conversion rate.
