Leaky Paywall 5.2.0 is here with four new features, a couple of improvements, and billing fixes you’ll want on your site.

See Who Converted on Each Article (Pro)

The Top Content cards on your dashboard now link their conversion counts to the exact subscribers behind them.

You can download that list as a CSV from the Subscribers screen. It works for both free and paid conversions.

You can finally see which stories build your list and reach out to the readers they brought in.

An Upgrade Prompt for Free Subscribers

Free registrants used to see a subscription table saying their free access never expires. That didn’t give them much reason to pay.

Now their account page shows how long they’ve been reading with you and invites them to subscribe. It only appears when you have a paid level they can buy.

You can set the heading, description, and button wording under Leaky Paywall > Settings > General.

Also New

• Email template switch: If you send your own fully designed email HTML, you can turn off the branded template under Leaky Paywall > Settings > Emails. It stays on for existing sites.
• Level Change transactions: When a subscriber moves between levels, it’s now recorded as a level change rather than an initial payment. It also has its own filter on the Transactions screen.

Improvements

• More status badges: Pending, trialing, past due, pending cancellation, inactive, and other statuses now have their own colored badges in the admin.
• No more overlay flash: The List Builder overlay no longer flashes on screen when a performance plugin defers the Leaky Paywall stylesheet.

Billing and Paywall Fixes

This release also fixes several billing and paywall issues:

• Trial upgrades now bill right away. Before, a subscriber who upgraded during a free trial kept free access until the original trial end, and their first charge landed on that old date. Your site also recorded a payment Stripe never took.
• Plan changes record what Stripe actually charged. Level changes now log the real invoice amount and payment, not the level’s list price.
• Stripe account credit no longer counts as a payment. Before, a plan change or renewal paid entirely with credit activated the subscriber and extended their expiration. Switching plans during an unpaid renewal could even grant a free paid term.
• No more double paywalls. On sites where another plugin starts the REST API early, restrictions could run during normal page loads. That showed a second paywall notice and counted the article twice against the meter.

What to Do Next

Update to 5.2.0 from Dashboard > Updates in WordPress. Then go to Leaky Paywall > Settings > General and write your upgrade prompt so free readers see an invitation that sounds like you.
