Who it’s for

Reader revenue for local & regional news – natively in WordPress.

Leaky Paywall plugs right into the WordPress site you’re publishing on today. Start with a registration wall to grow your email list, add a metered paywall when you’re ready to charge, and own every subscriber record along the way.

Mexico News Daily: 1.5 years of month-over-month paid subscription growth. 100% reader-funded, zero ads.
15-20% of readers convert at the registration wall. A typical newsletter popup gets about 3%.

Common questions

What publishers ask before signing up.

What happens on the demo?
30 minutes on Zoom. We look at your site and your goals, show you how publishers like you run Leaky Paywall, and give you an honest read on fit. No slide deck, no pressure.
How does the revenue share work?
Revenue share only applies to new subscribers you bring in after you start. Existing subscribers at the time you join cost you nothing. On Pro, we take 5% of the gross subscription revenue from new subscribers. A $5/mo subscriber costs you $0.25/mo. A $60/year subscriber costs you $3/year. Enterprise is flat-rate with no revenue share. You only pay more when you’re earning more. If readers aren’t paying, neither are you.
When should I move from Pro to Enterprise?
Most publishers stay on Pro until they break even with Enterprise pricing. Enterprise becomes worth it when the flat-rate price beats what you’d pay on Pro’s 5% revenue share, typically once you cross $20,000/month in new subscription revenue. Enterprise also unlocks customizations for UniPress mobile apps, the Flowletter newsletter platform, and LocalCalendar, plus a dedicated account manager.
What payment processors do you support?
Stripe is built in via Stripe Connect and is the recommended path for most publishers. PayPal is also built into Pro. Authorize.net, Braintree, and other gateways are available via Enterprise pricing. We can talk through which processor fits your country, fees, and existing setup.
How long does setup actually take?
Setup is typically less than 60 days. Simple setups can be done on a live site in days. Setup is quick: the meetings and decisions take time.
Is it hard to switch from another subscription platform?
We take care of it for you at no extra charge. We offer a free migration service for our publishers, typically valued at $2,000. Our team handles everything from subscriber importing to paywall setup, so you have a stress-free move. Depending on your needs, we can get you set up quickly on your live site. If you need more customizations or have specific requirements, we can work with you on your staging site instead.
Do you help with setup?
Our customer support process is key to your success. We start with individualized Zoom meetings to help you set up Leaky Paywall to match your content and audience. We encourage follow-up meetings to review and deliver website and newsletter improvements, with the goal of growing your email list and paid subscribers. We also help you customize your Leaky Paywall touch-points, and stay with you every step of the way.
What does ongoing support look like?
We respond within 24 business hours, usually in a couple of hours. Our support team operates 9am-5pm ET and offers login-level support to diagnose and resolve issues, including conflicts with other plugins or code. We’re also happy to meet via Zoom anytime.
Do you help with growing revenue?
Yes. We provide one-on-one Zoom consultations to design your Publisher Flywheel that grows audience, traffic, and conversions. We help with audience engagement, targeting, reader experience, and explore revenue avenues like group subscriptions, ad-free plans, premium newsletters, and product upsells. We share what’s working across the publishers we work with. We also analyze your Subscriber Insights to help put together a game plan for growing audience and subscriptions.
What’s the difference between Pro and Enterprise?
Pro is the right fit for most independent publishers. Enterprise is for high-volume publishers who want flat-rate pricing (no revenue share), custom development with our Flowletter newsletter platform, UniPress mobile apps, LocalCalendar, and a dedicated account manager. If you’re not sure, book a demo and we’ll figure out which one fits.
